AND WITH ONLY ONE HAND ?" Well, not always, though often. Generations of Americans have grown up watching "Westerns" both on the big screen and television. Think back, how often did you see the hero or the villian wrap his two mitts around his .45 Single Action Colt Peacemaker ?  It is a fact that there is no "s" in the word "handgun". If they needed both hands on their weapon, it was most likely a Winchester. 

As for Point Shooting, those old Colt revolvers could have a prominent front sight, but good luck finding a rear sight of any kind. You couldn't align sights that weren't there, so you pointed the sole front sight at your target. Did your focus go to the front sight ? NO, you focused on the target you wanted OR NEEDED to hit !

This isn't  a lost art. It's used by "Operators" in the SEAL Teams, Special Forces, Delta Force and all their counterparts among the Armed Services as well as our Intelligence Services. At close quarters, where it all usually happens, you'll have neither the room nor the time to put a support hand on your gun. You'll be fortunate to get it up to hip height before shooting.
