For more than 20 years, Defensive Firearms Consultants, Inc. founder Timothy von Eiff has been offering unparalleled firearms instruction to his clients.
Teaching has always come naturally to Mr. von Eiff. After he earned his MFA from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., he was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland and has also held teaching positions at the University of Baltimore.
During a 26-year career in the medical implant industry, a good part of that time was teaching one-on-one to medical professionals. But the events of September 11, 2001, led him to a different career path as an Intelligence Analyst for the U.S. Government.
He also served as President of what was then the largest gun club in Maryland, the Monumental Rifle & Pistol Club, which is the only MD club ever to be awarded the NRA Outstanding Club award, due largely to the Club’s efforts with Wounded Warriors from Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval hospitals.
Tim continues to teach safe shooting skills learned over a lifetime as he certifies clients for the state’s Handgun Qualification Licenses and Concealed Carry Permits. From his office in Continental Arms, he also provides private handgun instruction at no cost to Federal Law Enforcement and Intelligence Officers as well as state and local police officers, especially when they need certifications to meet civilian laws.
Philip von Eiff has been shooting handguns, rifles and shotguns since his teenage years. At seventeen, he had already attained NRA Certified Instructor status in each discipline. At the same time, he was an accomplished medalist in three-position small bore rifle competition.
He worked a season at Loch Raven Skeet and Trap Club, but it was handguns that offered him the most challenge and that became a lifetime passion. An accomplished shot with any handgun he picks up, he has long been a fan of the steel-framed, Czech-made CZ 75B, although he has been forced to admit that Glock’s new Model 17M is most likely the finest Glock to ever emerge from Austria.
Due to his background in competitive rifle, he has become DFC’s “go-to” guy for rifle and carbine instruction. He is, of course, equally skilled as a shotgun and handgun instructor.
"I was fortunate to take Tim's class in preparation for the Maryland Wear & Carry license application. I found Tim to be very knowledgeable and thoroughly professional. I highly recommend Tim for all your firearms training needs."
