Our instructors have more than 70 years of combined experience in education and competition with handguns, rifles, carbines, and shotguns. We are not employees of a firearms retailer or range. We teach our clients firearms safety above all else, a goal incompatible with a concealed carry class size anywhere upwards of six clients. Our focus is on teaching a skill set we hope our clients will never need. It's the ability to place accurate shots in succession on single or multiple targets placing them or those in their care in imminent danger of death or serious bodily harm. It's a learned, deadly skill set we never took lightly. We still don't.
Teaching has always come naturally to Mr. von Eiff. After earning his MFA degree from Catholic University, he accepted positions as an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland and the University of Baltimore. Many years later, following the events of 9/11/01, his writing skills allowed him to leave a successful career in the medical implant industry and enter government service as an Intelligence Officer and Analyst.
Shooting has long been part of his life, as a hunter, competitive shooter and teacher. For the last decade, he's been certifying Maryland residents for their Concealed Carry Permits and Handgun Qualification Licenses or HQL and he has been a Maryland State Police Certified Handgun Instructor and NRA Firearms Instructor for over thirty years.
Philip von Eiff has been shooting handguns, rifles and shotguns since his teenage years. At seventeen, he had already attained NRA Certified Instructor status in each discipline. At the same time, he was an accomplished medalist in three-position small bore rifle competition.
He's worked at Loch Raven Skeet and Trap Club and shot competitive small bore, but handguns offered him the most challenge and became a lifelong passion. An accomplished shot with any handgun he picks up, he has long been a fan of the iconic CZ 75B, although he will admit that Glock’s new GEN 5, Model 19M is easily the finest Glock ever made.
He should know, he is a Glock designated Glock Certified Advanced Armorer, one of a select number of civilian Glock Armorers to attain that advanced armorer status.
Philip is also a SIG Certified Pistol Armorer, no mean feat considering the variety of designs in the Sig pistol line
. Whatever generation Glock or model SIG you own, Defensive Firearms Consultants is factory certified to repair and to address any maintenance issues to bring your favorite pistol back to peak performance.
"I was fortunate to take Tim's class in preparation for the Maryland Concealed Carry license application. I found Tim to be very knowledgeable and thoroughly professional. I highly recommend Tim von Eiff for all your firearms training needs."
